The present investigation is concerned with the origin of macrospicules in the solar atmosphere, giving attention to the question whether H-alpha macrospicules and EUV macrospicules have the same physical origin. The investigation is based on numerical jet models considered by Suematsu et al. (1982) and Shibata et al. (1982). The characteristics of two typical types of jets in the solar atmosphere are discussed along with a model of EUV macrospicules, models of H-alpha macrospicules, and a general rule for the density in jets in the solar atmosphere. The results of the study suggest that H-alpha macrospicules and EUV macrospicules have different physical origins. H-alpha macrospicules are produced by pressure gradient forces at the bright point in the middle or in the upper chromosphere. EUV macrospicules, on the other hand, are produced by shock waves which originate from network bright points in the photosphere or the low chromosphere.
