Recent papers by U.S. scientists on various aspects of high-energy solar protons associated with solar flares are summarized. The intensity profile and energy spectrum of relativistic solar particles are described together with their anisotropic angular distribution at 1 AU. Several models of relativistic-particle propagation are outlined, particularly those which suggest diffusion in the 'solar envelope' (the region out to about 30 solar radii) and longitudinal drift. Proposed models of particle acceleration and storage at the sun are discussed.
