Venus Orbiter IR radiometer (OIR) data are employed in calculations of the net thermal emission from the Venusian northern hemisphere. Account is taken of the opacity of the sulfuric acid cloud, CO2, and water vapor. Baseline parameters such as the mean solar fixed temperature field, the water vapor distribution, and cloud structure are used as characterized by the OIR. Attention is given to the sensitivity of the calculations to changes in atmospheric models and cloud microphysical properties. The model considers the net flux at a reference sphere as measured by a broadband radiometer with a flat spectral response to wavelengths above 5 microns and no response at shorter wavelengths. The OIR measuring period lasted 72 days, covered 6 wavelengths, and featured a 1.5% accuracy. A brightness temperature within 2.5 K of 229.4 K was found, corresponding to an albedo within 0.011 of 0.762. The mean hemispheric emission was determined to be 157.0 W/sq m, with an error estimate of 3.8 W/sq m.
