Scientific paper

Research findings on the nature of the chromosphere over sunspots is reviewed. The development of models of the sunspot-chromosphere is recapitulated, and observational findings on the structure and oscillations of the sunspot-chromosphere are discussed. Filtergrams of the region are shown and the temporal behavior of important spectral lines is presented.
