A statistical model of the transport of electrons with energies of at least 30 eV in atmospheric gases is described which is based on the Monte Carlo method in the framework of a scheme of individual collisions. It is shown that neglect of angular scattering in the case of inelastic collisions (excitation and ionization) in models of this type can lead to significant errors in the calculations. Good agreement was obtained between calculated and measured characteristics of electron transport in N2.
