In a recent paper, Guinan and Maloney (1985), using all the empirical data for the eclipsing binary DI Herculis collected over 80 yr, estimated a periastron advance of 1.876 x 10 to the -4th deg/cycle, or of (5.1 + or - 0.5) x 10 to the -4th deg/cycle. The case has been presented as a possible failure of the theory of general relativity. This paper explains how the anomalous apsidal motion rate of DI Herculis can be explained within the framework of standard gravitational theories as a consequence of a nonalignment between spin and angular orbital momentum. The disagreement between the observed apsidal motion of DI Herculis and general relativity disappears when one assumes the rotational axes of the stars are not parallel to the angular orbital momentum.
