Within the framework of a theoretical model for the formation of the solar system, the time interval for the formation of prototerrestrial material is calculated. The calculation is based on data for the heterogeneity of the isotopic composition of elements in the solar system. It is assumed in the model that the formation of the solar system is due to the mixing of two gas-dust reservoirs which have different thermonuclear origins. The obtained time interval is divided into two phases. In the first (galactic) phase, lasting about 150 to 200 million years, the independent gas reservoirs appear and the material for chondrites and planets is formed. The second, (planetesimal) phase corresponds to the metamorphism of the protoplanetary objects and the removal of the volatile elements. The duration of the second phase (140 my) is calculated on the basis of the isotopic composition of xenon in the atmosphere and in the mantle. The total duration for the existence of prototerrestrial material is estimated to be no more than 300 to 400 my.
