Using solar eclipse pictures, the distribution of streamlines over the outer corona was analyzed. The extension of polar regions and especially the deviations of streamlines from the radial direction are well related to the phase of the solar cycle. The locations of chromospheric filaments are considered to build up a three dimensional picture of the streamlines which is believed to give a good representation of the observed distribution of the coronal electron densities.
