Computations of the theoretical behavior of the profile of the solar H-alpha line were performed, in which the fine structure splitting of the H-alpha transition was included in the line absorption coefficient. Calculations were based on the T(h) of the Harvard Smithsonian Reference Atmosphere. Inclusion of the fine structure splitting has the effect of shifting the line core toward shorter wavelengths. Profiles obtained are characterized by their asymmetry: the center of symmetry of the line wings is not equal to that of the line core.
