Scientific paper

The Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT) is described, and an account of its present and future accessories is given. Technical particulars on the mirrors, mounting, and servo drive system are discussed. Two Interdata 70 computers handle data collection and drive control, which may also be accomplished manually. Computer corrections reduce setting error, resulting in high pointing accuracy. The computer controls dome drive and focusing, and with the Cassegrain acquisition and guide unit, offset guiding will also be fully automatic.
