Various systems of mean data on the solar constant and the energy distribution in the solar spectrum are examined. The data were derived by averaging the results published in the recommendations of the U.S. Committee on Electromagnetic Radiation (1971), Makarova and Kharitonov's (1972) paper on solar radiation, and the third edition of Allen's (1973) reference book. It is concluded that the mean data from Makarova and Kharitonov's paper are apparently the most reliable.
