An attempt is made to describe, from a unified standpoint, the fundamental physical processes underlying the generation of pulsar radiation. The neutron star magnetosphere must contain a dense plasma consisting of an electron-positron plasma pierced by a relativistic particle beam. Such a plasma is thought to be the most probable source of pulsar radiation. The linear properties of waves in an electron-positron plasma with a strong magnetic field are analyzed. The possible instabilities of the pulsar-magnetosphere plasma are examined from the standpoint of pulsar activity.
