The decomposition of moment tensor into the double couple and the rest
is not unique, and several methods of decomposition have been proposed.
In this letter, we define the best double couple which minimizes the
difference from the moment tensor. Our definition coincides with that
used in the centroid-moment tensor method of Dziewonski et al.
