The EIA response to magnetospheric disturbance processes is reviewed. It
is concluded that the direct penetration to equatorial latitudes of
magnetospheric electric fields and the thermospheric disturbances
involving winds, electric fields, and composition changes produce
significant alteration in the EIA morphology and dynamics.
