Scientific paper

The incoherent scatter observations performed at Jicamarca in the 1960s are reviewed. Particular attention is given to a long series of electron density measurements extending to altitudes as high as 10,000 km, density and temperature observations during a total solar eclipse, temperature and composition measurements extending past the O(+)-H(+) transition region, and observations of the ion gyroresonance effect for protons.
