The KASCADE-experiment aims to measure the hadronic, the electromagnetic and the muonic component of an extensive air shower simultaneously with high precision. Energy, direction and nature of the primary cosmic particle has been determined, which has initiated the particle cascade by a collision with a nucleus in the higher atmosphere. The determinaton of the primary cosmic ray energy spectrum, the analysis of the chemical composition at different energies and the search for point sources of particles with ultra high energies are the main goals of the experiment. With the help of these data, different models concerning the origin of ultra high energy cosmic ray particles can be tested. To measure the muonic component, a detector has been developed consisting of large scintillator sheets read out by wave lengths shifter bars at all edges.
