At the present the universe contains about 1 proton/m3, 400 photons/cm3 and 108 neutrinos/cm3 for each of three flavours of neutrinos. The author discusses how the small ratio nb/nγ ≍ 2×10-9 can be understood in terms of the (slightly extended) standard model of particle physics.
