The Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) is a fourth generation Hubble instrument scheduled for installation in 2003. It is a moderate resolution (R = 20,000) high sensitivity ultraviolet spectrograph operating from 1150 - 3200 Å. At this time, several critical components have been completed, including optics and detectors. Component level performance indicates that spectral resolution and effective area requirements will be met. The instrument performance is summarized, and flight detector and grating capabilities are highlighted.
