ZEPLIN III is a two-phase xenon detector soon to be deployed underground at the Boulby mine to search for dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs). It exploits both scintillation and ionisation signals produced in liquid xenon in order to discriminate between gamma-like interactions and the nuclear recoils expected from the scattering of WIMPs off Xe atoms. This discrimination of particle species, together with the low radioactivity of its components, should extend the search for WIMP-nucleon interactions down to a spin-independent cross-section of 10-8 pb.
