The averaged radial surface density distribution of a young stellar component in M 31 is derived, taking into account the distribution of stellar associations, open clusters and young field stars. This distribution is compared with the distribution of neutral (HI + H2) hydrogen. The density of the young stellar component is found to be proportional to the gas surface density in the power of 1.30 +/- 0.22, or to the space density in the power 1.17 +/- 0.25.
