A dispersion framework, appropriate for discussing the low-energy
pion-nucleon interaction, is reviewed. Sensitivity of the isoscalar D-amplitude
at the unphysical Cheng-Dashen point to input from different phase shift
analyses and low-energy experiments is discussed.
