We consider some Kaluza-Klein models which on dimensional reduction lead to scalar-tensor forms of gravity in four dimensions. The process of compactification is dynamical, with the extra dimensional scale factor playing the role of the JBD scalar field in four dimensions. Inflationary solutions are obtained for the four dimensional scale factor. The exponential potential obtained for the scalar field in four dimensions leads to a slowly varying cosmological term at late times. .
