A calculation is made of the gravitational radiation produced by bodies moving freely in the field of a rectilinear infinitely thin cosmic string. Expressions for the full radiation energy in the case of a point mass flying past the string are obtained, as are expressions for a probing cosmic string moving parallel to a string that sets the background space-time.
