It is shown that the introduction of flat Minkowski space into the relativistic theory of gravity transforms it into a variant of the bimetric formalism of general relativity. All the fundamental objects of the relativistic theory of gravity - the energy-momentum tensor and the covariant gauge conditions-coincide in the two formalisms. The fundamental equation of the relativistic theory of gravity is the harmonic gauge condition of the bimetric formalism. An algorithm for transforming the solutions of general relativity into the solutions of the relativistic theory of gravity is given. The relativistic theory of gravity has the same cosmological solutions as general relativity. The group of motion, which generates the conserved quantities, does not preserve the causal relations, which leads to an inconsistency between the principle that Minkowski space is fundamental in the relativistic theory of gravity and the other principles of the theory. After an appropriate correction the relativistic theory of gravity turns out to be a specific representation of general relativity.
