The effect of thermoelastic deformations on the shaping of optical surfaces by a grinding of the items with a solid tool is investigated theoretically. A mathematical expression for the surface shape of an optical item after completion of the grinding process is obtained by solving the system of thermal conductivity and thermoelasticity equations.
