This brief paper contains the first identifications of difference bands
in planetary spectra. These absorption bands lie at 816μμ,
802μμ, 683μμ, 673μμ and 584μμ. They are due to
methane gas and are found in the spectra of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.
