The authors offer a new interpretation of the origin of oscillations in active regions. Quasi-periodic oscillation trains with periods of 3 min, 5 min, and ≅7 min arise due to slow oscillatory transients which accompany the appearance of plasma flow along the sunpot's magnetic field. In oscillatory transients of the fast type, occurring in current loop systems, the typical period of oscillations shifts towards values of the order of a second.
