Our main goal is to use the IUE to obtain Lyman continuum energy distributions for broad absorption line QSOs. This will allow us to test the validity of photoionization theory as applied to broad absorption line clouds as well as study the physical conditions in these clouds. In addition, we propose work with archival data to further study the Lyman continuum energy distribution of QSOs. We also propose to make a repeat observation of an edge-on Seyfert 1 galaxy (previously observed by us with IUE) to confirm the result that broad absorption lines are present.
