The intensity variation of the bright ultraviolet aurorae on Jupiter serves as an important tool for studying the interaction of the Jovian atmosphere with charged particles in the magnetosphere. Observations of the Jovian aurora in the south polar region will be monitored over a complete rotation of the planet to determine if the interaction with the magnetosphere is in fact localized in longitude. The ratio of the southern auroral intensity to that in the north will be determined. The average auroral intensity, the brightness of the Ly-alpha bulge and the ordinary dayglow Ly-alpha will be monitored; variations which are correlated with the decreasing solar activity will be of special significance.
