A series of IUE-spectra are required to better understand auroral processes on on Saturn and Uranus. Intense variable Ly-alpha emissions have been observed from both planets. In the case of Uranus the presence of these emissions has been used as evidence for aurorae and hence a magnetic field. The three outer planets with auroral emissions observable by IUE (Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus) have roughly similar atmospheres but very different magnetospheres. Thus it is possible to use the IUE spectra in comparative studies of the three magnetospheres. The primary observational goals of this program will be 1. the longitudinal variation of the Saturnian aurorae, 2. the monitoring of Saturnian and Uranian aurorae with solar activity at a time when it is decreasing and 3. the obtaining of better H2 emission spectra for the Saturnian aurorae.
