Previous IUE and ground-based spectra and imagery of the outer condensations near Eta Carinae have shown them to be composed of CNO cycle processed material (N- and He-rich) which has been ejected by Eta Carinae. Recently obtained IUE and groundbased (CTIO) low dispersion spectra indicate an extraordinarily complex physical situation in the condensations, particularly in the brightest, or "S", condensation. In order to better understand and model the physical and chemical properties of the condensations, new higher dispersion IUE and ground-based data are necessary. The proposed high dispersion IUE observations described herein should provide new information about the UV spectra of "S", including improved detectability of weak lines above the complex strong UV continuum, much improved wavelength determination for several currently unidentified UV emission lines, and possibly information on the velocity structure and dispersion velocities of the various ionization zones in and around the condensation.
