Narrow, high-velocity absorption components in UV spectra of early-type stars are discussed. The distribution of stars showing this phenomenon is presented in an HR diagram. More than 50% of luminous stars with Mbol - 7.5 show narrow absorptions. Their occurrence in less luminous stars is found to be strongly connected with the Be phenomenon. The observed time variability of the narrow lines is reviewed, especially the memories found in stars. Models to explain the narrow absorptions are considered.
