Venera-9 and Venera-10 radiometer data were used to construct a generalized diagram of the diurnal distribution of the thermal emission intensity of Venus, reduced to a local vertical at each point of the planet's equatorial belt. A limb darkening analysis shows the existence of two states of the upper boundary of the emitting cloud layer, corresponding to day and night conditions. Observed minima of brightness temperature on the night side of the planet can be explained by attenuation of radiative fluxes by aerosol masses, formed in daytime photochemical reactions and situated in the colder layers of the atmosphere, above the principal cloud level.
