A theoretical approach is taken to the motion of a deformable body with energy dissipation in a central force field. It is shown that all the finite trajectories of the motion in phase space tend to steady state motion, i.e., to uniform rotation of the mass center of the elastic body about an axis parallel to the momentum vector of the motion and passing through the attractive center, with constant orientation of the body in the orbital axes. Such limiting motions are discussed with reference to tidal processes and the gravitational stabilization effect.
