The effects of a mixing length that varies in time because of the stochastic nature of convection on solar models are evaluated analytically. It is noted that variations as small as 1% in solar luminosity may result in changes in the earth's average temperature of 2 K. Variations in convection efficiency are noted to alter the temperature gradient resulting in a changed convection-zone structure. This causes changes in the gravitational potential energy and the internal energy of the convection zone material. The specific characteristics of these changes depend on the rate of convection efficiency variations
