Measurements of ions and electrons in the keV range, obtained from the ESRO 1A satellite, are described in terms of a model with two oppositely directed field-aligned electrostatic potential drops: an upper drop, whereby electrons accelerate downward; and a lower, produced by the electrons' influx, which, in its turn, accelerates ions downward. Attention is given to 6 keV ions, which are field-aligned on the flanks of the inverted V events. It is noted that the ratio of 1 keV to 6 keV ion flux is at a maximum near the center of the inversion.
