Meteorite craters are characterized by powerful negative gravity anomalies whose amplitude depends on crater dimensions. Crater mass deficiency calculated from the gravity anomaly gives a better idea of the anomaly source than does the amplitude of the anomaly. This paper describes a method for calculating mass deficiency from the gravity anomaly, and considers various aspects of mass deficiency of terrestrial and lunar craters.
