Solutions are attempted for the absolute magnitude, apex, and velocity of 27 S stars. A solar motion from radial velocities is reported, and the result is shown to be essentially identical to the conventional solar motion. The extent to which the solar motion is visible in the proper motions is examined, an initial solution for the solar apex is made from 42 S stars, and AGK3 data for earlier-type stars are evaluated. Several values for the mean absolute visual magnitude of S stars are obtained from different types of data, and possible systematic errors in the proper motions are discussed. It is concluded that S stars are not supergiants and that their proper motions are still rather poorly known.
