The paper presents a classification of burst situations based on predicted interplanetary and magnetospheric disturbances. It is expected that this approach will make possible a more systematic analysis of information in these disturbances; the classification is applicable to powerful bursts during 1966-1974, and should be followed by more precise classification with the introduction of new criteria.
