An analysis of the cosmic ray data on σabs(p air) has led to the conclusion that σtot(pp) rises steeply beyond √s=1 TeV, which nicely agrees with predictions of Lipatov's QCD pomeron. A large, positive, phase of the forward p (p)p scattering amplitude implied by this rapid rise of σtot(pp) is shown to fit perfectly the recent SppS data on ϱpp=ReFpp (t=0)/ImFpp(t=0). Predictions for σtot(pp)=85-95 mb and ϱpp at the Tevatron, √s=1.8 TeV, are presented: σtot(pp)=85-95 mb and ϱpp~0.2.
