Ozone and nitrogen dioxide were monitored using ground-based visible spectrometry from the Esrange base at Kiruna (Sweden) during January to April, 1988. The springtime radiative warming was found to begin in early March. On the average, ozone increased from 400 DU in January to 450 DU in March. The data indicate that diurnal and seasonal NO2 variations are closely associated with stratospheric temperature.
