The occurrence of natural wave emissions detected by GEOS-1 at frequencies above the electron gyrofrequency are discussed with the data presented covering mainly dayside phenomena. A classification of the wave phenomena is developed and experimental evidence and morphological information relevant to the classification are presented, together with preliminary comments on nightside observations. It is argued that the wave phenomena can be understood as manifestations of electron cyclotron harmonic wave emissions in the region of the cold plasma upper hybrid frequency.
