The S-300 wave experiment on GEOS-1 is a cooperative enterprise involving six European institutes. The basic functions of the experiment are described, and the sensitivities attained for measuring electric and magnetic fields in the frequency range of DC-80 kHz are presented. A block diagram of the S-300 wave experiment illustrating the way in which signals are routed from the sensors, via the onboard analysis equipment, to the telemetry is given. Two plots are used for showing the sensitivity parameters of the electric and magnetic sensors. It is concluded that the S-300 wave experiment has continued to perform perfectly, yielding excellent data for 14 months, up to the time of GEOS-1 switch-off in anticipation of the GEOS-2 launch.
