The authors present CCD spectrophotometry of the transient X-ray pulsator EXO 2030+375. The observation reveals that the previously proposed optical counterpart is an Oe/Be star displaying moderately strong Hα emission (9 Å equivalent width). From the spectral slope between 5000 - 7000 Å the authors derive an interstellar reddening which is consistent with the previous photometric estimate (E(B-V) = 3.8 ± 0.15). The maximum distance to the source is found to be ≡4 kpc. It is concluded that EXO 2030+375 belongs to the growing class of detached X-ray binaries in which the accreting neutron star is fed by the variable circumstellar envelope of the early-type primary.
