It is demonstrated how the orientation and magnitudes of the electric field vectors changed from quiet times prior to SSCs to the disturbed periods. The magnetic field signatures and their local time dependence are discussed. Using both electric and magnetic field vectors, a picture of the average plasma flow pattern associated with SSCs is constructed. Typical signal propagation velocities in radial and azimuthal directions are modeled based on arrival times of the compression magnetic pulse at the ground and at the GEOS-2 location.
