Three-dimensional ionospheric currents (90-400 km altitude) caused by semidiurnal symmetric tidal winds are examined by a magnetic field line coordinate system, assuming infinite parallel conductivity. Results indicate that the electrostatic fields and currents are distributed mainly in low latitudes for the (2, 2) mode, but globally for the (2, 4) mode. In the equatorial region the meridional vortex current system was found to exist for semidiurnal winds, but in a more complex form than the reported (1, -2) mode. The structures of height-integrated currents resemble that of equatorial counterelectrojet in the afternoon and their variations may be one of the causes of day-to-day changes in the Sq currents.
