The paper examines the accuracy with which the energy of a particle that induces an electron-photon cascade can be measured; measurements are conducted in an X-ray emulsion chamber in the case when the magnitude of darkening in the film is determined at a fixed depth of the absorber. A model is used which takes into account the deviation of the form of an individual cascade from the average, arising as a result of errors in the measurement of darkening.
