Scientific paper

The results of optical zonation of the lunar disk by quarters are presented. Portions of landing sites of manned and automatic stations that had supplied soil samples to Earth were taken as the rest areas on the lunar surface. Implementation of a special visualization program makes it possible to assess the representativeness of the landing sites by albedo, degree of polarization, and color index on the lunar disk. The total representativeness of seven lunar landing sites of Apollo 12 and 14, Surveyor 6 and 7, and the stations Luna 9, 13, and 17 amounts to 1.5% of the entire western portion of the lunar disk. Discussed in addition to the point method is the areal method of optical zonation of the lunar surface, permitting a quantitative estimation of the incidence of the types of lunar rocks existing in terrestrial collections.
