It is argued that the sequence of the evolution of the solar magnetic field obtained by the generating function method cannot be defined in terms of the corresponding boundary condition problem, as Klimchuk and Sturrock (1989) did. Thus, the generating function method cannot be ruled out, and the force-free magnetic fields may have a loss of equilibrium. The evolution of the force-free magnetic field for A = ln(10) is illustrated.
