The relation between solar surges and sudden ionospheric disturbances (SIDs) as well as longitudinal distribution of the solar surges on the sun are analyzed using the Solar Geophysical Data as the main source of data. The study indicates that the association of solar surges with SIDs is very slight and that solar surges do not produce enhanced flux of soft X-rays, implying that the surge material is cool and does not heat the corona. Solar surges are found to be most frequent at 80, 110, 260, and 290 deg longitudes.
